Random chunk of text:
Anyhow, since I’m not developing much on it, I’m not going to be spending this blog post yapping about the server of mine - the software one, that is.

Instead, I’ll do what I do best: whine.

For one, my ISP - this is a while ago now - ruined my life by ruining my extraordinary (57 Mbps) upload speed. Now I only get the advertised 6/6 line.

I mailed them about it a week ago, no reply. Will mail them about it again, if that doesn’t help, then goddamn it, I’ll set up a fucking automailer. Which triggers a bit more often than once a week (once a minute perhaps?)

Also, I’m getting rather tired of looking at the disappearingly little free space on my servers, and will be buying a new storage server Soon™ - the only issue is that my wallet will shrink considerably.

I also need a new UPS, as my current one is becoming fed up with the fact that my network keeps expanding.

In other news, this is the loot from christmas:
* Intel PRO/1000PT network card for the server, TCP offloading 4tw
* 3Com whatsitsname 10/100 16-port switch. Should probably have gone for a 8-port gigabit switch, but feh. (Did I mention how much I hate getting gifts? Money! Give me money!)
* 50 RJ45 plugs
* Tool to crimp said plugs
* 100 meters of Cat5e cable, sadly it’s installation and not patch cable (Rrr, probably my own fault too)
* 2m Cat6 cable for the server transfer - I need all the bandwidth I can get (Transfer and MD5 generating/testing should take around 20 hours, with 8 or so dedicated to pure packet mashing over the network)
* Skimpy amount of cash from my dad (Doumo, otousan)
* Random clothes
* Retractable 1.5 meter long network cable, for when fixing crap on my desk

As a quick footnote, I should mention my last two guilty pleasures: Ergo Proxy (or, as both the Japanese and I like to say: Erugo Purakushi) and Kanon.
No, the latter is not about good DSLRs. Ergo Proxy is a fairly generic futuristic sci-fi series, but presented in stunning 720p format, which makes me very happy. It’s also suitably depressing. Ish. Sort of GITSy.

The latter is along the lines of Onegai Teacher and Onegai Twins, but produced by Kyoto Animation (producers of the splendid The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya), and not quite as wrong. Yes, it’s a mushy drama (with splendid humor), but Piro of Megatokyo fame spoke very warmly of it, and I have to concur. It does make me hate VLC tho, because the VLC devs completely fail at subtitle rendering.

Anyhow, that’s the rant for today, and it’s probably the last rant for the year.

Coming in 2007: New design (I hope), new copy of Wordpress if I can disable the WYSIWYG editor, and more drama - and if you’re really unlucky, the anime index.
